Teaching Statement

Mathematics is usually perceived by students of all levels of education as a difficult subject with little or no applications in real-life. It is therefore a big challenge for all mathematics tutors especially those at the Universities to demystify this preconceived notion and develop students to appreciate the beauty of Mathematics. My approach to teaching Mathematics therefore centers on understanding concepts and their applicability in real- life settings.

I believe that the use of technology in the classrooms to create animations of concepts which otherwise might seem abstract is very critical. In my Calculus classes, I use Geogebra to illustrate the concepts of limits, the derivative, areas and volumes. In my Statistics classes, students are introduced to softwares that aid in data visualization and analysis.

I have always designed my courses to include individual group assignments to make my students independent in mind and also good team players. By giving students practical projects students are offered hands-on experience of the topics we discuss thereby making them appreciate what they learn.

Courses taught: Statistics; Calculus I & II; Applied Calculus
