Ahmed Satti ’07 is Sudanese but grew up in Ghana. He attended the Ghana International School where he wrote his A-Levels and enrolled at Texas Tech University as a candidate for Mechanical Engineering. After 2 and half years of studying Engineering, Ahmed returned to Ghana to attend Ashesi and pursue a degree in Business Administration. According to Ahmed, “my engineering background made the transition to business a lot easier. As an engineering student, I was used to working with numbers and performing analysis.”
Ahmed took advantage of Ashesi’s internship programs and worked with two of Ghana’s top investment companies; Strategic African Securities and Databank Financial Services.
“I decided to come to Ashesi because I was so inspired by Patrick’s story. That inspiration, together with the education I received and the friendships I formed has made me who I am today.”
Ahmed currently works with the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management (FSFM) as a training co-coordinator. The Frankfurt School of Finance and Management has been hired by the Central Bank of Sudan (CBOS) and the World Bank to establish the Sudan Microfinance Development Facility (SMDF). The SMDF has two main functions; to provide funding in the form of loans, guarantees, equity and grants and to provide technical assistance and training to build capacity.
As a training coordinator, Ahmed evaluates microfinance institutions and determines the kind of technical assistance they might need to further build capacity. He monitors the performance, quality of training and technical assistance as well as the implementation of knowledge transfer in these institutions. “I am excited about my job because I know I contribute something significant to my country every day,” Ahmed admits.
Ahmed states, “Ashesi’s strong internship program with top Ghanaian and international firms provides students with an avenue to gain experience. Skills and experience are critical considerations of every forward-looking organization. My internships with two investment banking firms helped me gain valuable work experience which my current employers considered during my interview process.”
Ahmed was on Ashesi’s basketball team and graduated Cum Laude.
