Friday, March 28, 2008 marked the start of another new beginning for Ashesi University with the launch of its Alumni Association and the newly created Office of Alumni Relations. Alumni from Ashesi’s three graduated classes along with the Class of 2008 were present at the event.
The Office of Alumni Relations is a service of the university that seeks to keep alumni connected with each other and with Ashesi through the provision of valuable services and resources. Sarah Mills, Class of 2007 and Ashesi’s Alumni Relations Officer, remarked, “Alumni should care about the future of their alma mater and it’s next generation. Ashesi is business and our heritage.”
Members of the Alumni Association pay an annual membership fee that entitles them to great benefits such as continuing access to Ashesi’s library and discounts whenever they patronize the services of the Association’s Preferred Business Partners. Members also receive discounts on all Ashesi continuous education programs, social events and branded items. In addition, Alumni will be given the opportunity to give back to Ashesi by helping with student recruitment, event facilitation and mentorship of current Ashesi students.
Dr. Patrick Awuah, President and Founder of Ashesi University presented a state of the university address and implored alumni to give back to the place that prepared them to meet their future. Dr. Awuah discussed the university’s plans for the near future and the role of alumni can play in ensuring continued success.
“It’s great to be part of this exclusive club. I feel like I am going to be reliving my Ashesi experience”, Kofi Baidoo’07. The event themed, “Footprints, think Ashesi, give back” was co-sponsored by the Career Services Centre and the Office of Alumni Relations.
