Daniel Ofori-Dankwa, a final year student at Ashesi University, has been selected for an internship by Microsoft Research India. Daniel will be working with the Technology for Emerging Markets group in Bangalore, India from June through August 2006. He will be working with Dr. Kentaro Toyama, Assistant Managing Director for Microsoft Research India.
The Technology for Emerging Markets group engages in computer science and information technology research, and examines the social relevance of these technologies in the developing world. Daniel, a computer science major at Ashesi, will be working with people with backgrounds in sociology, political science as well as economics. Dr. Toyama states, “Although MSR India is located in Bangalore, India, we are interested in working with universities around the world. Within Africa, Ashesi University is an ideal partner for us because of its commitment to high-caliber tertiary education and its contributions to the growing IT industry in Ghana.”
Microsoft Research India was set up in January 2005 to develop technological innovations to be applied in the emerging markets of the developing world. It is the sixth lab Microsoft has established worldwide, with sister labs in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom
