November 13, 2015 - "A New Dawn," a girl-child education project, in collaboration with the Art Factory, a student run club, organized a talent show themed Fun’ta Night for young girls in Berekuso. Fun’ta Night coined from the words fun, fundraising and talent, was organized as part of a series of programs A New Dawn is embarking on, to help young girls from Berekuso embrace diversity and appreciate their talents.

A New Dawn, a project to support girl-child education, was founded over a year ago by MasterCard Scholar, Grace Johnson '16 who received $10,000 in funding from the Dalai Lama Foundation. To date, she has been working with young girls in Berekuso, to tackle barriers to education they face, and help them develop stronger potential for success.

Ashesi's Motulsky Hall was filled with faculty, staff and students, members of A New Dawn, as well as some members of the Berekuso community, who cheered for, and encouraged performers all throughout the show. Performances included music, poetry, dance and drama by both Ashesi students and girls from A New Dawn.

“It was inspiring to see the girls from Berekuso unleash their potential all on one stage with the support from a room filled with Ashesi students and the families of the girls,” said Grace Amponsah ’16, “By the end of the program, the girls had built enough confidence to perform on stage, with the support from the audience. We definitely want to make this program a tradition at Ashesi University College so all contributions are welcome to make this possible!”
