French Ambassador, H.E Frederic Clavier, paid a short visit to campus as part of work to strengthen Ashesi’s connections with Francophone Africa and improve French language skills of students on campus. The Ambassador met with campus leadership, and shared opportunities for collaboration between Ashesi and French Universities.
The visit is another step towards building a French course at Ashesi, that will allow students and alumni to better engage opportunities in French-speaking countries across Africa. While at Ashesi, the Ambassador also spoke to students about the relationships between Ghana and France, and shared plans to further deepen the relationship between the two countries.
He explained that France was actively engaged in supporting more students to engage in engineering majors, and would be looking at including programmes in management in the future. The Ambassador also spoke about the importance of cross-cultural learning and study abroad programmes, encouraging students to make it a priority in their study.
“Mobility of students between different countries is the future of education,” he said. “You should aim to study in different countries – one semester in France, one semester in Canada – because it gives you capacity to understand the world.”
