May 19th, 2015. Just one day after the contract deadline of May 18, the construction team that has been working on our new engineering building handed the keys to us. On time. Within budget.
It is a moment of pride for us at Ashesi University, and a sign of the exciting things that lie ahead for African education. To all you generous people who have donated and encouraged us to keep forging ahead, thank you! To the architects, engineering consultants, the main contractor, subcontractors and workers who brought this project to completion, this is your moment of pride too. "Built in Africa, by Africans," never sounded so good!
The new engineering building houses classrooms and labs designed for in-depth, hands-on learning in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, product design and physics. Uniting traditional design by local architects, world class technology, and environmental best practices, this new building complements the existing architecture of our campus.
We look forward to welcoming our first engineering students and to seeing them navigate the seamless connection --the beautiful cascade of interconnecting courtyards-- between this building and the rest of campus.
