Ashesi has received a $94,000 grant from the Ford Foundation to support a two-year Fund for Service to Children and Youth at Ashesi. The fund will support student-centered projects aimed at making a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children and youth in Ghana, and will seek to increase the impact of community service at Ashesi.
Community service is embedded within Ashesi’s core curriculum and is part of our commitment to develop a sense of citizenship by helping students understand how they can make a positive impact in their surrounding communities. Through the Fund for Service to Children and Youth, students can apply for up to $10,000 in funding to develop, improve and sustain service projects that target disadvantaged youth and children.
"The Ford Foundation grant is an exciting opportunity for Ashesi University students, faculty, and the institution as a whole to deepen our level of citizenship,” explains Rebecca Awuah, head of the Arts and Sciences department and member of the community engagement team at Ashesi. “Our hope is that it allows us to better impact the lives of disadvantaged children and youth in Ghana, and to offer students learning experiences that develop their real-world problem solving and entrepreneurial skills.”
