Update: the DreamOval Foundation honoured this pledge on the 3rd of July, 2014, donating a $5,000 cedi equivalent of GHs15,000 to Ashesi's Engineering Programme capital campaign.

Ashesi has received a $5,000 pledge from the DreamOval Foundation in Ghana to support the university’s engineering program starting in 2015.

The DreamOval Foundation’s gift will help fund the construction of Ashesi’s main engineering building, which will house the electrical, science and computer labs as well as three classrooms and faculty offices. Ashesi’s new engineering major will build on the University’s core curriculum by adding a powerful, complimentary skill-set to foster growth in Africa.

By emphasizing design, problem solving and entrepreneurship, Ashesi’s engineering programme will equip students with the skills to create new, affordable products and the hands-on experience to implement better-designed infrastructure that meets local needs.

“DreamOval believes most of the world’s very important dynamics such as electricity, computing and landmark structures that have remained relevant over the years were built by world class engineers,” said Ashesi alum Derrydean Dadzie ‘06, CEO of DreamOval Limited and the DreamOval Foundation. “As a business, we have no doubt that our future and better society agenda is largely founded on the existence of ethical and daring engineering minds who can provide pragmatic and long-term creative and innovative solutions to Africa’s infrastructure problems. Supporting Ashesi’s Engineering Programme is part of DreamOval’s contribution to that agenda.”

The DreamOval Foundation manages all corporate social responsibility initiatives by DreamOval Ltd, a software company started by Ashesi alumni in 2007.

“Ashesi is looking forward to building a truly world-class engineering program,” said Dr. Patrick Awuah, President of Ashesi. “We are grateful to have our alumni involved in making this great project happen.”
