During the visit, the delegation shared their excitement about the growth and impact of Ashesi, and hoped other universities could learn from Ashesi's example.
Leaders from the Association of African Universities (AAU), visited Ashesi for the first time to meet the university's leadership, learn about our facilities and explore different ways in which the AAU could work with Ashesi moving forward.
In a short meeting with the President of Ashesi, and other key university leaders, the AAU delegation shared their optimism for Ashesi, and discussed how the AAU was hoping to adopt some of the strategies the university was using to improve and sustain its quality, and to expand its impact across the continent.
The delegation included the President of the AAU, Professor Olusola Oyewole, and Prof. Etienne Ehouan Ehile, the Secretary-General of the AAU Secretariat in Ghana.
"Ashesi is an example that all universities in Africa can learn from," said Prof. Ehile. "You do not need to say you're excellent. People who visit this university will see for themselves, and they will be ambassadors for you."
The mission of the AAU is to raise the quality of higher education in Africa and strengthen its contribution to African development. The organisation represents the voice of higher education in Africa on regional and international bodies and supports networking by institutions of higher education in teaching, research, information exchange and dissemination. Ashesi is one of close to 200 member universities of the AAU, which spans across 34 countries in Africa.
