Renaissance Capital has generously committed to donate all proceeds from their new book, "The Fastest Billion: The Story Behind Africa's Economic Revolution," to Ashesi. The book, which draws from the minds of African economists, analysts from Renaissance Capital and the leading emerging market investment banks, frames discussions of Africa's future in terms of its booming economic growth.
"Age is not often associated with speed; but Africa, the cradle of civilization, now has more of the world's fastest-growing economies than any other. After a generation of relative stagnation in the late 20th Century, many in Africa have begun the long awaited period of catch-up with the developed world. The bottom billion is becoming the fastest billion."
According to Charles Robertson, author of The Fastest Billion, “we can see that across Africa, growth rates of 6-8% since the turn of this century have already underpinned a sharp rise in global portfolio interest in Africa, a vast increase of investment and a remarkable rise in per capita GDP. But the best is yet to come” (p. 38).
Dr. Stephen Armah, Assistant Professor of Economics at Ashesi University stated, “The Fastest Billion written by Charles Robertson is an engaging piece based on solid research. It tells the positive story of Africa that many in the West have not had the opportunity to hear. It is a must read for all students of economics and potential investors.”
