In a short handing-over ceremony on 13th December 2012, Michael Quansah ’14 was formally inducted as President of the Ashesi Student Council (ASC). It was the first time after the election, that Michael and his Vice-President, Jennifer Senoo ’14, outdoored their government’s committee heads to the community.

Former President, Kwadwo Owusu-Adjei ’13, in his last address to the Ashesi community as leader of student government, charged the new executive to continue to work together with the Ashesi community to improve the university, and our learning environment. He also assured the new executive that he and his team would continue to support them.

“We may have ended our term as student council executives, but we will continue to remain with you as friends and counsel,” Kwadwo said. “We will strive work with you to see the completion of projects that our government started, including the student council cafeteria. Throughout your next year, I assure you that you will not be alone.”

Kwadwo went on to congratulate his executives for a job well done, and thanked them for supporting him throughout his term of Presidency. All former executives and their teams received Certificates of Honour from the former chairperson of the Judicial and Electoral Council, Nii Okai Nunoo ’13, and got loud cheers from students gathered in the Cornfield and Archer courtyard to witness the ceremony.

Michael and Emefa’s ASC, the ninth to be inducted, is made up of Efua Akyere Graham ’15 (General Secretary and Public Relations Committee Chair), Harriet Mate-Kole ‘14(Finance Committee Chairperson), Anna-Lisa Hammond ’14 (Sports Committee Chairperson), Phoebe Amoako ‘15 (Welfare Committee Chairperson), George Neequaye ’14 (Outreach Committee Chairperson), Habeeb Aremu ’14 (Berekuso Transition Committee Chairperson), Ruweida Salifu ‘14 (Entertainment Committee Chairperson) and Amanda Ofosu-Siaw ’15 (Academic Committee Chairperson).

Francis Vogbe ’14 and Daniel Ankomah ’14, Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Judicial and Electoral Committee, also expressed their firm commitment to making sure the Ashesi Student Council remained accountable to its electorate.

With 71% of students voting for him on election day, Michael promised to live up to the mandate given him, and asked his team to help him push on with the good work that the immediate past student government had done.

“After ten years, Ashesi has built a respectable brand for itself, and we have reached an inflection point,” Michael said. “We can either climb higher, or depreciate in value. My team and I have every intention of working collectively in our various arms to ensure Ashesi is on the right path towards reaching the pinnacle we aspire to. Thank you for giving us the mandate to serve.”
