November 29th, 2012 - A six-member leadership team from University of Johannesburg paid a one-day visit to Ashesi to explore and discuss avenues for possible collaboration between the two institutions.
The team was made up of Prof Adam Habib (Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Library), Dr Pinkie Mekgwe (Executive Director, Internationalisation), Prof Amanda Dempsey (Executive Dean, Economic and Financial Sciences), Prof Daneel van Lill (Executive Dean, Management),Prof Rory Ryan (Executive Dean, Humanities), and Prof Letlhokwa Mpedi (Department of Mercantile Law).
The group met with President Dr. Patrick Awuah and other members of Ashesi’s executive team, and also with various members of faculty and staff to learn more about Ashesi’s education model, as well as to explore areas in which the two universities could collaborate.
Professor Habib, who led the delegation to Ashesi, explained that he and his team were excited by Ashesi’s model of education and its efforts at improving the continent, and looked forward to more engagement with Ashesi.
Dr. Patrick Awuah also mentioned that Ashesi shared the University of Johannesburg’s enthusiasm, and added that Ashesi would be delighted to work together with the South African university to improve learning and our impact on students.
Associate Director of Diversity and International Programs at Ashesi, Millicent Adjei, encouraged the various departmental heads who were in the meetings to take advantage of this goodwill and take the discussions further even after the visit.
