The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Global Business Challenge (CIMA GBC) is an international business competition designed to test the skills of tomorrow’s young business leaders.
An Ashesi University team won second place for this year’s CIMA GBC Ghana competition, and was awarded GHs2000 scholarships to study at Benchmark, a professional training centre in Ghana. The team, S3-Giants, was made up of George Sognon ’13 (Team Leader), Nana Kyei-Boadu ’13, Timothy Schandorf ’13 and Nicola Gerning ’13.
Designed to test professional competence in management accounting, the CIMA GBC requires participants to prepare and present relevant, well thought through solutions to management issues in fictitious business scenarios.
The Country Director of CIMA, Paul Aninakwah, explained that the CIMA GBC is aimed at giving students an opportunity to explore their business and financial knowledge. “The standard of this year’s competition was very high and these students are well on their way to becoming tomorrow’s high flyers,” he said.
The competition originally started with 52 teams, with eight of them making it into the final. Two of the eight teams in the finals were Ashesi University teams, S-3 Giants and Passionate Achievers, which placed fourth. S3-Giants team member, Timothy, explained, that “it was an exciting experience. It was a great learning opportunity for us, and we have picked up quite a lot throughout the competition.”
We commend the two teams for the strong showing! Congratulations guys!
