On September 14, 2001, Al Bloom, President of Swarthmore College, signed a collaborative agreement between Swarthmore and Ashesi, offering to assist in efforts to develop a world-class academic institution in Ghana. The two colleges will work together to develop a rigorous academic program at Ashesi. The agreement sets the specific goal of enabling Swarthmore College to recognize credits taken for course work completed at Ashesi -- a yardstick that will truly speak to the caliber of Ashesi's academic program. Volunteer professors at Swarthmore, besides serving as external examiners, have offered to assist with faculty development and training, advise on matters of curriculum development, faculty recruiting, and academic policies.

Ghanaian students will be better educated as a result of this relationship, and we are very excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with Swarthmore. Swarthmore College is currently ranked the top liberal arts college in the United States by US News & World Reports.
