Ashesi Business Administration student Esenam Afua Sika Dogoe has been selected to participate in the Semester at Sea programme as Ghana's Interport Student for the 2011 voyage. Esenam will travel to Brazil to join the Semester at Sea ship, the MV Explorer, spending over a week crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Ghana.
Semester at Sea is the premier international shipboard education programme. It is a study abroad programme that gives college students the rare opportunity to circumnavigate the globe and see how the rest of the world lives. Instead of the traditional study aboard programmes, where participants travel to a country of their choice, Semester at Sea participants spend sixteen weeks on board the MV Explorer, which serves as a floating campus. They travel from country to country, learning about different cultures and taking part in community service projects in each country. Each Semester at Sea Voyage usually covers about 11 or 12 countries.
The Semester at Sea program in Ghana is being organized by LandTours Ghana Limited, a private travel company that has been operating in the country for the past decade. LandTours will organize dozens of trips for Semester at Sea students all over Ghana to help them learn more about our rich culture and traditions.
Esenam Afua Sika Dogoe is a second year student of Ashesi University College. Coming from a small family of five, she is the last of three children and the only girl. Although currently pursuing a major in Business Administration, Esenam looks forward to pursuing a career in Corporate Law. Her interests include music, reading and writing. She currently speaks two languages, English and Fante. While participating in the Semester at Sea programme Esenam will serve as an ambassador for Ghana and help the students from around the world understand more about Ghana’s interesting history and cultures.
