November 10, 2016 - Kwaku Sintim-Misa, Ghanaian satirist, playwright, movie director, and actor joined Ashesi’s Leadership 4 class to speak on creative arts as a tool for social change. Recounting his experience as an artist to the class, Mr. Sintim-Misa shared how he has inspired change through his work.
“Realizing that creative arts is a medium to create change, I decided that I couldn’t afford to use my art only to create laughter,” he explained. “It had to be injected with some kind of message. Creative arts gives us that power to create change so it’s important to use it wisely to impact society.”
On leadership, Mr. Sintim-Misa spoke on the need to use appropriate channels for effective communication.“Leadership is about judgment and the ability communicate,” he explained. “Good leaders are able to understand and discern the appropriate channels to communicate to people. It’s about adherence to structures and letting people understand how they can adhere to those structures, and one of the most powerful channels you can have in this world is the creative arts.”
