Ashesi Computer Science senior, Isaac E. Dorgbefu, was selected to be a part of Google’s Africa Trainee 2011 Programme. Isaac is the only student from Africa chosen to be a part of the trainee programme this year and will intern with Google in Zurich, Switzerland for two months. Isaac becomes the second Ashesi student to intern at Google after Kobla Nyomi, who participated in the programme last year.

The Google Africa Trainee Programme seeks to expose the best students (Computer Science or related technical field) from Africa to the corporate engineering/technical world.

Isaac was invited to apply and was selected for the Google training programme after competing in the Google Code Jam Africa and Arabia 2011. The Google Code Jam is a highly competitive timed programming competition in which programmers are given a number of complex algorithmic problems to solve.

Isaac expressed excitement at the opportunity to work with Google. “This is an incredible learning opportunity and presents a chance for me to gain great insight into software development for a global market.”

Isaac will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Google’s projects while developing his programming skills and connecting with people from all over the world. He would also have the opportunity to attend weekly tech talks and meetings where he will get to understand how Google is organising information.
